We’re delighted to welcome Brazilian artist-researcher Ricardo Cabral to Havering for an artist talk that asks a deceptively simple question: what can the performing arts do in the face of ecological collapse? Ricardo’s practice brings together waste pickers, biologists, mangrove forests, and communities in Rio de Janeiro to make work that refuses easy boundaries between art, science, and the living world. His talk will draw on years of fieldwork creating performances, films and workshops that entangle human and more-than-human life — and will open up questions about what it means to make art that genuinely allies itself with movements for planetary survival.
The talk will be followed by the launch of A Green Life — Havering’s Creative Climate Manifesto, developed by Amber Massie-Blomfield of Fern Culture and beautifully designed by Havering-born artist Lucy Carruthers. Shaped by the voices of residents and cultural practitioners across the borough, A Green Life sets out a shared vision for how creativity and culture can drive environmental awareness and action in Havering.
If you’re working in arts and culture, care about climate activation through artistic practice, and want to be part of what comes next — this morning is for you.
