Tips for creating your event listing
Before submitting your event, follow these simple tips to make your listing stand out:
Make a Strong First Impression
Titles and an image are the first thing that people will see, so make the title clear and catchy – and use a clear, bold image or visual – to help your event stand out.
Write a Compelling Short Description
Your event thumbnail includes a 20-word summary. Use simple, audience friendly language and think about why people would want to come along or take part.
Craft Your Event Overview
Your main event description gives visitors the full picture. Keep your description succinct – between 150 – 200 words maximum is ideal (no emojis please). Please ensure that the text provides all the information that a visitor might need.
Prepare Your Featured Image
You can add one image to sum up your event. This should be a real, high-quality photograph of your event, people, or place.
To prepare your image, it should:
- Be in a landscape format (4:3 ratio) – min. 1000px wide, max. 3MB, JPEG format (72dpi).
- Avoid logos, text overlays, or blurry visuals.
- Only upload images you have permission to use.
Include the Key Details
Help visitors plan and attend your event easily. You will be asked to add:
- Dates and times
- Venue name and full address
- Ticket price (or ‘Free entry’)
- How to book or register
- Venue contact details
- Age group (e.g. families, adults, young people), Type of event (e.g. Music, Heritage, Nature) and Accessibility guidance.
Check Before You Submit
- Double-check your spelling, dates, times, and links.
- If you need to make an revision to your event once you have submitted it, you can delete and resubmit your submission or email us.
- Once your event has been approved, you will be able to make edits to this and resubmit for approval.
The submission process
Once you submit your event, our team will review it to make sure it meets our criteria.
This includes checking that the event takes place in Havering, is public, and has all the necessary details and a suitable image.
We may also check for accuracy, clarity, and relevance to the borough’s cultural offer.
Most submissions are reviewed and approved within 3–5 business days, after which your event will be published on the Havering London website and included in the cultural calendar.
If there are any issues, we’ll contact you via email to make updates before approval.
