Calling all Heritage Facilitators!

We’re seeking a warm, engaging facilitator with experience leading heritage, storytelling, or creative workshops with community groups.
From HAVERINGLondon Jobs

Romford Market has stood at the heart of Havering for centuries a place of trade, spectacle, community, and characters. Market Town gathers the legends, myths, and memories that the market has inspired across generations and transforms them into a shared public celebration that will see 100 residents parading on the bank holiday weekend in August. We are looking for an experienced and creative facilitator to lead a community workshop programme that will generate the 25 stories directly shaping the costumes and characters brought to life at our live event in August.

What You’ll Do
You will design and deliver 15 workshops across the London Borough of Havering, engaging a target of 300 participants. Through each session you will:

  • Draw out local legends, myths, and memorable market characters from the past and present.
  • Gather costume ideas and visual inspiration linked to the 25 stories the project will tell.
  • Create a warm, accessible space where participants feel confident and heard
  • Document stories and ideas in a format that can be passed to the project team and costume supervisors.

Heritage Pack Development
Working alongside the Havering Unearthed team, you will contribute to a physical heritage pack rooted in the workshop stories. This pack will then be adapted into a digital version for school groups and young people, reaching a further 500 participants through Havering FUSE’s network.

Story Sign-Off & Handover
By late June 2026 you will work with the Havering Unearthed team to confirm the final 25 stories. These will be formally handed over to the Costume Supervisors as the creative brief for costume development.

We are seeking someone who:

  • Has experience facilitating heritage, storytelling or creative workshops with community groups
  • Is confident, warm and engaging when working with adults and young people
  • Can draw out narrative, memory and imagination in accessible and enjoyable ways
  • Has an interest in local history, folklore, material culture or costume
  • Can contribute practically to the development of a physical and digital resource
  • Is organised and reliable. Workshop scheduling and story documentation are essential to the wider project

We particularly encourage applications  from people based in or who have connections to Havering.

Fee: £3,750 (£150 per workshop and £1000 to develop the heritage packs)
