Market Town Participation Facilitators

Suburban Legends is a spectacular performance that will bring to life the legends, myths and memories of Romford Market this August Bank Holiday weekend. We're seeking three Participation Facilitators to support the 100 participants with bringing their costumed characters to life.
From HAVERINGLondon Jobs

Market Town is a large-scale public celebration taking place at Romford Market on 29 August 2026, presented as part of the Greenwich + Docklands International Festival.

Suburban Legends is a spectacular performance that will bring to life the legends, myths and memories of Romford Market this August Bank Holiday weekend. 100 residents will take part in a costumed performance animating the streets of Romford, each group telling one of 25 stories drawn from the community.

We are looking for three Participation Facilitators to support the 100 participants with bringing their costumed characters to life.

What you will be doing

Each Participation Facilitator will be responsible for supporting a number of story groups, helping participants bring their costumed characters and stories to life. You will:

  • Support your groups to understand and embody their story and costumed characters
  • Energise and motivate animators throughout the briefing day and rehearsal
  • Keep your groups focused, together and in the right place during the live performance
  • Be a calm and encouraging presence for animators of all ages and backgrounds
  • Work closely with lead artist David Shearing and the Havering London team throughout

What we are looking for

Essential:

  • Experience facilitating or leading groups of people in a community, performance or event setting
  • Confident, warm and able to engage people of all ages and backgrounds
  • Able to stay calm and organised under pressure in a busy public event environment
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to give clear, encouraging direction
  • Available for all four key dates

Desirable:

  • Experience in community arts, participatory performance, theatre or dance
  • Experience working with large groups or crowds
  • Knowledge of or connection to Romford and Havering
  • Experience working with people in costume or character

This role does not require professional performance experience. What matters most is the ability to energise, support and guide a group of community performers to feel confident and ready to take the stage.

You must be available for all four key dates:
Participant recruitment: Thursday 2 July 2026, 19:00 – 21:00
Participant briefing day: Saturday 22 August 2026
Rehearsal: Tuesday 25 August 2026, 18:30 – 21:30
Live event: Saturday 29 August 2026, Romford Market

Fee: £1000 each
