Poetic Place Workshop Assistant - paid role

We’re seeking a friendly and proactive person to support our facilitators during a series of community workshops for Poetic Place, a new project that invites poets, writers and communities to re-imagine Havering’s identity.

Starting with a series of workshops in communities across the borough, we’re inviting young people and diverse local communities to explore identity, place and imagination through poetry and spoken word. Whether they’ve written before or are trying it for the first time, participants will be invited to express and reflect on subjects such as what Havering means to them – now and in the future. We’ll also be hosting slams, bringing together writing and live performance, where people will share their poetry. The project is led by Producer Jordan Abankwah, working with poetry facilitator Lalah-Simone Springer, a poet and speculative fiction writer. We’re seeking someone that lives in Havering or has strong links to the borough.

About the role
The Workshop Assistant role involves assisting with workshop activities, motivating participants and contributing to a welcoming and positive environment for everyone involved. You’ll attend all workshop sessions, plus preparation days, and take part in go-see visits (local trips or outings designed to inspire participants and inform creative work). You’ll also support the facilitator in selecting poems and other creative materials. This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience in workshop facilitation, learn new skills, and play an active role in your local community.
